Belting (or vocal belting), Transposition & Modulation.
Belting (or vocal belting ) is a specific technique of singing by which a singer brings their chest register above its natural
passaggio (break) at a loud volume; instead, an alternative production is developed, often described and felt as supported and sustained yelling. 'Belting' is sometimes described as 'high chest voice' but this is technically incorrect and potentially damaging for the voice. It is often described as a vocal register, although this is also technically incorrect; it is rather a descriptive for the use of a register. Singers can use belting to convey heightened emotional states.
While transposition and modulation both involve similar techniques, they re in actual quite different. Often time it takes a careful analysis as well as a trained ear to he at when a modulation or a transposition occurs .
In simple terms , transposition is a movement either harmony, melody or both and is usually measured by its intervallic movement.
Modulation involves the process of transposition, is a more complex techniques that moves the music to an entirely new tonal centre or key.
As important as the modulation itself, is the process in which a key is established.
Often this process is the clue that a modulation is occurring rather than merely transposition.
A modulation is set up so that the new key is introduced and feels like a new permanent tonal Centre.
