Melodic Chromatic Scale

A Melodic Chromatic Scale sounds the same but is written in different ways. A Melodic Chromatic Scale may be written in a “Set Form”. A “Set Form” means that a scale is written using a set pattern of notes. In a Harmonic Chromatic Scale, the “Set Form” is that the Tonic, Dominant and Upper Tonic notes are only written once. All other notes are written twice. Therefore the notes in the ascending and descending Harmonic Chromatic Scale are the same notes. A Chromatic Scale uses all 12 semitones in the octave, for a total of 13 notes. The “Rules in Stone” for writing any Chromatic Scale are: ♪ The Chromatic Scale must start and end on the same Tonic note. ♪ Each letter name is used at least once. You cannot skip a letter name. ♪ A letter name may be used twice in a row, but never more than twice in a row. ♪ There will always be 5 single notes – 5 letter names that are only used once. There are 3 types of Chromatic Scales: 1. Harmonic Chromatic Scale – Set Form (Single Tonic, Domin

The term "flat & sharp"

Hello everyone, whenever you hear or see the term 'flat' or its equivalent, 'sharp', you'd suppose it is accidentals that are being referred to. By accidentals, I mean the alteration of natural keys by one semitone, either higher or lower. In case you've forgotten, that's exactly how the keys in the flat and sharp series are created. In this tutorial, I won't be focusing on accidentals or scale building. I'll be talking about note precision while singing. Yep! I'm addressing we singers. I'm sure you have found yourself in a situation where you actually intend to sing a given note within a particular song, eg G, but you end up sounding something in-between G and Gb or G and G#. When you erroneously go lower, you're singing flat, but when you go higher, you're singing sharp. Most music directors and band leaders mix up the terms, hence, some singers are confused. It is easier to correct yourself when you actually understand what you&#

Questions to ponder on

Image
Good morning everyone, a beautiful week is here, have got some questions for you all. Have you ever wondered why God desires for people to sing? What role should singing play in the life of a Christian? What is it about worshipping through songs that is so important to God? You may not know it, but God already answered these questions in the Bible. The seven reasons below answer these questions and unpack more important truth about singing in the life of an individual Christian and the church. 7 Biblical Reasons Why Singing Matters. When you sing you obey: Singing isn't an option in the Scripture. It's a command. Colossians 3:16, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God." Ephesians 5:18-19: "And do not get drunk in wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the spirit. Addressing one another in psalms and hy

Things you should know as an instrumentalist

Happy Sunday Everyone. *Things you should know as an instrumentalist* 🎻🎺🎸🎷🎼🎯 👉 Noise-Always have it in mind that the moment you start with the policy that you must hear yourself during a ministration/performance/presentation with your group or band, noise starts from there. I'm not saying you shouldn't be audible with your instrument, its not in all cases that the musical gadgets will produce what you want, moreover they have their limits and get spoilt even at work. 👉 Submission - No matter what the case may be, even if the lead vocalist isn't as bold or good as expected, submit to him/her, respect the little talent, encourage that person, and never say you are too good to play for an artist. 👉 Respect - To everybody you come across in life, they have their different ways of perfectly displaying their musical talents, that they are not good on a particular pattern/style doesn't mean they are worst in other aspects, and if it's about just learning

Musical Bar Lines

Image
Good morning everyone, I'll be discussing on Musical Bar Line. Musical Bar Line is a vertical line that divides the song in intervals of same length of time, with the purpose to organize the structure and make the orientation to the musician easier. Bar lines are placed on the musical staff to separate the divisions of time. It is used to build a musical staff. Examples are shown below. The vertical line draw in the image above represents the musical Bar lines.  From the image above, we can see the we have the musical staff, Clef, time signature, notes & bar lines. The musical bar line has divided the musical staff. Following the time signature (4/4) in each staff, it says 4 crotchet beats in each bar. The musical bar lines help group beats into patterns and help organize the writing and reading of music for both the composer and the performer. Five types of bar lines give you directions on how the music is structured, when and where to repeat, and when to stop:

Time Signature

Image
Hello Everyone, today I will be discussing on Time signature in the Theory of Music. At the beginning of a piece of music, there is a sign called a Time Signature.  Time signatures define the amount and type of notes that each measure contains. It is also known as measure signature .  It consist of two numbers written like a fraction. See image below Clearly the top figures in the time signature in the image above shows how many beats are there in a bar. The bottom figures in the time signature in the image above shows what kind of note is to be used to represent the beat. If the bottom figure is 4, the beats will be shown as crotchets ; if it is 2, the beats will be minims ; if it is 8; they will be quavers . (It is helpful here to remember the alternative word for minims, crotchet, etc.: half notes, quarter notes etc.) Thus from the image above their time signature means that: This means that there are 4beats in a bar and the beats in the bar are written as crotchets.

Rest in Music

Image
Hello everyone, I'll be discussing today on the topic "Rest in Music".                                         Rest Rest in music is a symbol that signifies a period of silence or pause in a piece of music. Each notes (for example: crotchet) has their rest symbols in Music. Each rest symbol and name has a direct relationship with a particular note value for length, indicating how long the silence should last. Images shown below are the rest symbols in Music alongside their note & note values and the length ; Questions about this topic should be forwarded to "umukorojosh@gmail.com". The Musical Staff or Stave, Clef, Middle C and Ledger lines.

Image
Today, I'll be discussing on the musical staff, Clef, Middle C and Ledger lines.                    The Musical Staff (or Stave)  The Musical Staff is the basic or foundation of music notations. The musical staff consists of 5 horizontal lines and four spaces. It is what the notes are represented on. The musical staff is a diagram on which musical symbols such as notes, sign, rest, clefs, sharp and flat are placed.  The Clef  According to "Wikipedia" A clef (from French: clef "key") is a musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of written notes. Placed on one of the lines at the beginning of the stave, it indicates the name and pitch of the notes on that line. This line serves as a reference point by which the names of the notes on any other line or space of the stave may be determined.  We use Clefs to tell us which notes correspond to which lines or spaces. The names of notes on a staff depend on which music clef is at the start of the staff.

NOTES AND NOTES VALUE Notes according to Wikipedia is a sign used in musical notation to represent the relative duration and pitch of a sound (♪, ♫); A note can be placed on either the line or space on a stave...  In music notation, a note value indicates the relative duration of a note,  A note consists of the note head, the stem and the flag... 1. Double whole note (Breve).  2.  Whole Note (Semibreve): The duration of the whole note is 4 quarter notes. It is an open note with no stem and flag.  Note that (2) semibreve makes a Breve.    2. Half Note (Minim): The duration of the half note is 2 quarter note two.  It is quite different from the whole note in such a way that it has a stem, although it is still open but without flag.  Note that (2) minim makes a semibreve & four (4) minim a Breve.  3. Quarter Note (Crotchet): The quarter note is worth 1/2 of a half note.  Note that two (2) crotchet makes a minim, four (4) crotchet makes a semibreve
